Brittas Bay North is a beach in Wicklow. During the bathing season, a lifeguard is on duty. Near the beach, there are toilets and a parking area. Dogs are not allowed on the beach. Beach wheelchair is available. The Beach Wheelchair is available at Brittas Bay North Beach 7 days a week from 11am – 7pm during the bathing season in June, July & August and over the first 2 weekends of September. Special requests can be made outside of this period.The use of the wheelchair is FREE but it must be reserved in advance using the booking system at https://www.wicklow.ie/Living/Beachwheelchair.
Brittas Bay North Beach is a vast expanse of gently sloping sandy coastline that extends for an extended length. The beach's natural landscape consists of hilly sand dunes that harbor and promote the growth and preservation of two protected plant species. The beach terrain creates shallow water sills, causing gradual water depth decline, with sandbars commonly visible. Additionally, Brittas Bay North Beach is a suitable location for water sport activities comprising surfing, windsurfing, canoeing, and snorkeling.
The beach is used by increasing numbers of surfers, windsurfers, canoeists and snorkelling enthusiasts. The number of visitors during the bathing season varies between 500-1000 per day, but can be multiples of these numbers during exceptionally good weather. There is a designated area water sports activities area on the beach, where instruction in water sports actvities is available.
Brittas Bay North Beach is located approximately 13km northeast of Arklow Town and 11km south of Wicklow along the R750 coast road. The beach is situated about 3km north of Mizen Head. The beach area is approximately 1800m long and is approximately 0.14 sq. km. in area. The beach is accessed through a car park that fronts the R750 coast road.
Brittas Bay North Beach is a large, gently sloping, open sandy beach backing onto a hilly sand dune area.
