Grattan Road Beach is located in the county of Galway. During bathing season, a lifeguard is on duty, Life Guard hut marked on beach map and is yellow & red in colour. Lifeguarded Zone is between yellow and red flags. Do not swim if all red flags are flying. Refer to www.Galwaycity.ie for lifeguard times.. There are parking opportunities close to the beach. Dogs aren't permitted on the premises. The beach is accessible to guests with disabilities. Bus stop located in close proximity
Grattan Road Beach is a stunning, sandy beach that overlooks Galway Bay, offering breathtaking views that extend to County Clare and the Aran Islands. At 250m in length, it is a shallow beach that is perfect for swimming and sunbathing.
The beach is used extensively all year round, due to its close proximity to the City centre. Swimming and bathing are popular activites particularly during the Summer months. Seating and picnic faclities are available closeby along the promenade, and the promenade is used extensively by walkers and runners alike. Dogs are prohibited on the beach from 9:00 a. m. and 8:00 p. m. , during May, June, July, August and September, by beach by-laws.
Grattan Road Beach is located to the west of Galway City, close to Salthill. It is a popular neighbourhood bathing area in the city, and is the closest beach to the city centre. It is particularly suited to families with young children and residents of the Whitestrand, Grattan Road and Claddagh areas. The beach is approximately 180m in length and average number of daily bathers during the bathing season is estimated at approximately 500 on weekdays and 1000 on weekends. The beach itself faces directly out to Galway Bay and boasts breathtaking views stretching for miles across the bay to County Clare and the Aran Islands. It is accessed from the Grattan Road. Limited free parking is available along the promenade adjacent to the beach, however there is additional parking at Toft park, which is in close proximity and approximately 750m from the beach.
It has a shallow, sandy beach of approximately 0.18km bounded on one side by a made outcrop and the other by the rock armour along the promenade. It is suitable for swimming at both high and low tide. The beach is used extensively all year round, due to its close proximity to the city centre.
