Clifden Beach is in the county of Galway. There are restrooms and a parking space nearby. Dogs on lead allowed.
Clifden Beach, near Clifden Town, is a small, secluded sandy beach situated on Clifden Bay, 78kms west of Galway City. Accessible via "The Beach Road," adjacent to Clifden Boat Club and the RNLI Station, the bathing area is separated from a rocky shore and mooring facility by a grassy headland. Visitors can enjoy a tranquil seating area with views of the rocky shore.
The beach is mainly used by walkers. A bathing water prohibition notice is in place due to the risk to human health from the poor status of water quality results.
Clifden Beach is located close to Clifden Town, 78kms to the west of Galway City on the shores of Clifden Bay. The bathing area is located down a narrow road beside Clifden Boat Club. This road is signposted the “Beach Road” just off the Sky Road after supervalu. It is located on a popular walking route in the town. It is divided from a rocky shore and a mooring facility by a small grassy headland. There is a small seating area overlooking the rocky shore. To the north of the beach is an embankment that separates it from the road. The beach is approximately 250 metres long with a bathing area of circa 500m2. The beach lies within Clifden Bay which is classified as a transitional water body within the sub-catchment of Bunnahowna_SC_010 (Subcatchmen Codet: 32_12).
: Clifden Beach is sandy with a soft underfoot indicating an element of mud in the substrate. The RNLI have a lifeboat station located to the west of the bathing area. Clifden Boat Club and coffee shop is located also to the west of the bathing area in close proximity to the lifeboat station. It is a sheltered beach however it can be subject to strong wave action and currents at times.
